About the Club

Our club was formed in the early 1990s and is part of the British Koi Keeper's Society.

The season starts with our AGM in the autumn. Through the dark cold winter nights we get together to think and talk about Koi. Our meetings are used as a forum to discuss problems of any kind relating to Koi. We have experienced members and dealers on hand to help with most queries, whether it relates to building ponds, filtration or other equipment, the selection of Koi, or health problems. Talks are given on fish health, video shows, quiz nights, an annual Christmas dinner, an annual Koi Show dinner, an annual open Koi Show, a summer barbeque, several pond visits and outings including trips to the mainland.

The meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month and Cregagh Cricket Club, Gibson Park, Cregagh Road, Belfast at 8.00pm.

The annual membership is £20 per family which also includes free lectures, barbeques, pond visits and access to our library material. Anyone is welcome whether you have a pond or not and our secretary, Billy Cathcart, can be contacted at billycathcart@yahoo.com

We have a local vet specialising in fish diseases. Last autumn he gave the club a lecture and slide show. He attended our show and answered questions not only from the members but also from the general public. We are fortunate to be able to have post-mortems carried out at the veterinary science research centre. This can identify the cause of our problems and hopefully contain some deadly outbreak of one of the many health problems which affects our fish. This service is carried out at £10 per fish.

We held our Christmas dinner on the Chinese New Year which was the end of January at a Chinese restaurant in Dollingstown which has an aquarium filled with Koi!

Our annual open Koi Show took place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th June 2004 at Coleman's Garden Centre, Templepatrick, Co. Antrim.

We had pond visits to Co Down, Co Antrim and Belfast where we enjoyed the famous Northern Ireland hospitality. Of course the sun shone and a good time was had by all.

Several members travelled to Newark for the National Show, their fish were entered in the competition, some of which won prizes.
